Thus, Carrefour is expected to open a supermarket on the ground floor of many Winmarkt centers: Winmarkt Somes Cluj, Winmarkt Magura in Bistrita and Winmarkt Big in Turda. In this way, Carrefour strengthens its position on the format of supermarkets in major shopping centers in the country.
The 3 supermarkets Carrefour Group opens will have the following surfaces : 1188 sqm (975 sqm - sales area) in Cluj, 895 sqm (673 sqm - sales area) in Bistrita and 925 sq m (713 sq m - sales area) in Turda.
Carrefour Group operates in the supermarket segment since the acquiring of the company Artima at the end of 2007 which owned 21 stores in western Romania. In the year 2008, Carrefour has remodeled all its supermarkets, one of which became a mini-hypermarket and has opened 4 stores in accordance with the values that define its strategy:
- best quality-price ratio;
- the freshest products every day;
- low prices every day;
- highest quality services.
"The new partnership with Winmarkt allows us to continue to expand, increasing the network of Carrefour supermarkets and coverage of the Group in Romania." - Said Andreea Mihai, marketing director, Carrefour Romania.
The agreement signed enrolls in the company's strategy to supplement Winmarkt current tenant mix by attracting a supermarket operator to fill the lower levels of their centers, located in city centers. Thus, Winmarkt comes to meet the demand for retail space for expanding large networks of supermarkets and hypermarkets that want to operate in smaller areas in central locations.
Winmarkt intends to expand this strategy throughout the network, which currently counts 15 shopping centers in 13 cities. Winmarkt is owned by Immobiliare Grande Distribuzione (IGD), a company listed on the stock exchange in Milan, one of the most active players on the real estate market in Italy, with a portfolio value of EUR 1.4 billion - said Marius Cristian IONESCU Chief Marketing Officer, Winmarkt.
