The National Office of the Trade Register (O.N.R.C.) is the public institution, with legal personality, organized under the Ministry of Justice, financed entirely from the state budget, whose activity is regulated by the provisions of Law no. 26/1990 on the trade register, republished with subsequent amendments and completions.

The National Office of the Trade Register fulfills the following functions:

• the function of keeping the trade register;
• the function of issuing documents and information;
• the function of archiving the documents on the basis of which the registrations are made in the trade register;
• the assistance function for natural and legal persons subject to registration in the trade register;
• the function of editing and publishing the Insolvency Proceedings Bulletin.

As regards the services provided by the O.N.R.C., they can be grouped as follows:

• Assistance to interested persons in registering in the trade register;
• Identification of a company (unique registration code, name, headquarters);
• Statistics structured on different criteria;
• Information on the evolution of the company from registration to date;
• Confirmation of the non-existence of a company or finding of deregistration.
